Mass protests occer calling for the release of Alexei Navalny, who was jailed 3 days ago.

The independent police monitor OVD-Info. reported that 855 to 1,000 are arrested in Moscow when part of the protest became violent. Other protests and arrests occur in Omsk, Yeketrtngburg, Vladivostok, St. Petersburg, Yakutsk and 79 to 101 other cities. About 2,250 were arrested in total that day.

A whiteness' video showed a St. Petersburg riot police officer apparently ruthlessly kicking a woman with no good cause.

Russian authorities accused the US embassy staff of orcastrating the protests.

The UK and USA condem the Russian police for being overly brutal.

A day earlier Russian Social media platforms removed most content supporting planned protests in favour of the jailed opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
